Care Packages

It’s time to start thinking about our “Care Packages” for our College Students and Service Men and Women. We want to get them out for Valentine’s Day. But we need some help from everyone. First, if you know the address of a college student or a service man/women from our church , please give that address to Lisa Shepherd, Jan Emch, or Sandy Hinerman. We want NO ONE left out! Second, we need some donations. The list of suggested donations is on the door across from the office. We need the donations by Friday, February 1, 2013. You may place your donations on the designated table in the

MESSAGE FROM PASTOR HUNTER

January 29, 2013

Greetings from First Christian Church in New Martinsville, WV. As we move into February, we will be completing the Sundays after the Epiphany by reflecting on Paul’s great hymn regarding love in 1 Corinthians 13 on February 3 and on the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus on February 10. This leads us to the beginning of the Lenten season in the church’s liturgical year—a time of pondering the role of repentance in our spiritual journey as we ponder Jesus’ own journey toward Jerusalem as he faces the cross. We make this journey as individuals but we also make it as a community. We will begin together on Ash Wednesday, February 13 at our 7 p.m.Service of the Ashes. I also want to invite you to our Lenten Meals and Prayer Time to be held every Wednesday in the six weeks of Lent. Known as “Bread, Broth and Bible,” we invite you to join us at 12 noon for this simple lunch and time of reflection and prayer together. These will start on February 20.

Hope to see you Sunday.

Thanks to the Elders of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Wheeling, we have available a wonderful resource for use with those who are recovering from illness, unable to get about much, or anyone else:  Praying the Hours is a 48-page booklet with prayers created by those Elders for use at the traditional hours for prayer from the Church’s long tradition.  You can access a copy in pdf format at the top of our Publications page.  It prints on both sides of 12 sheets of 8.5×11″ paper.  We are grateful for the opportunity to share this gift with Disciples around the Region and beyond.
