Christmas Offering for Regional Ministry
Please help us share the important work of the Regional Church in your congregation, and join us in supporting the Christmas Offering.  This offering, which is vital to sustaining regional ministry, remains entirely within the region for that purpose.  You can give online here, or contribute to the offering at your local church.  We are grateful for your support and ongoing witness for the gospel in our region!

Christmas Greetings from Your Regional Staff!

May the joys of this season burn brightly within your hearts and lives,
and may God bless you with a very happy new year!

West Virginia Council of Churches
Highlights of Listening Events on Substance Abuse
Between April and November, there were 17 Listening Events held around the state on the subject of substance abuse.  These engaging gatherings, involving 268 people, revealed more about the enormity of the situation, and the church and community’s vital role in addressing it.  You can see a video summarizing the experiences by clicking here.

Legacies for Fall, 2016

The Regional Church, in partnership with our sister region and the Christian Church Foundation, is pleased to offer a new edition of Legacies – our planned giving periodical designed to help you and your congregation grow as stewards of God’s good gifts.

You can read a copy online here, or download a tabloid (11×17) for copying for your congregation (the 3rd sheet is designed to be printed on two sides of an 8.5×11 sheet as an insert).

Your congregation’s office will receive sample copies to distribute, unless you reply now and advise us that you do not desire them to be mailed.  We appreciate your help in saving costs by duplicating in your own congregation.

Pension Fund Webinar

Join us this week for important health care updates for non-Medicare participants.

Todd Adams, Pension Fund President, will be providing an update on the 21st Century Cures Act and the implications for employers and their employees who chose not to offer group insurance for 2017.

To view times for the conference call or to register to attend the webinar, visit our website: www.pensionfund.org/meetings

These calls are ONLY for those employees who are receiving or employers who are providing a health benefit stipend. The HRA law does not apply to employers who only have 1 healthcare qualified (more than 25 hours per week) employee, have more than 50 employees or are continuing a group plan.

Newly-formed Parish Celebrates the Season
The Clarksburg-Grafton Parish enjoyed a joyous Christmas service and dinner together Sunday December 11 hosted by First Christian Church in Grafton. Pastor Jeff Hanlin designed the service using  members from both churches including two of the youngest members of Clarksburg Central Christian Church. The food and fellowship was wonderful with the fellowship hall being at capacity. Merry Christmas to all with peace, hope, joy and love to the world.

Prayerscapes for Advent
The West Virginia and Pennsylvania Regions have joined together to offer Prayerscapes for Advent, a daily devotional guide prepared by our ministers.  The booklet, which can be downloaded here in PDF format, will print front-to-back on 6 sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper, stapled in the center and folded to provide a nice booklet to be shared with congregations and anyone who desires it beyond the local church.  Please share the following with others within reach of your newsletters and bulletins:

The clergy of the Regions of West Virginia and Pennsylvania have joined to create Prayerscapes for Advent a daily devotional guide for our members and friends of the church.  We are grateful for your support of the Christmas Offering for Regional Ministry, which makes this publication possible.  You may obtain a copy of the booklet from the church, or subscribe online by visiting prayerscapes.wordpress.com.  We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in the life of our shared ministries within the regions and beyond!

New Martinsville Offers Music Camp
New Martinsville First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is offering a one day music camp for children ages 2nd through 8th grades.  The camp is being held at the Disciples Center for Human Wholeness (an extension of NMFCC) and will be held between the hours of 10AM and 5PM on Wednesday Dec. 28, 2016.  Pre registration forms are available in the office of NMFCC, office hours 9AM-1PM Monday through Friday.  Students may also register at 9am the day of  the camp.

Sean Maxwell is the music instructor.  Sean is a native of New Martinsville and a graduate of Magnolia High School.  He is currently living in Linz, Austria where he studies music at the Anton Bruckner Private University for music, drama and dance.  Maxwell has taken part in master classes with the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra in Munich, Germany with the brass of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the principal trumpet of the Munich Philharmonic, the principal trumpet of the Camerata in Saltzburg, Austria with the American Brass Quintet and twice with Vincent DiMartino, international trumpet soloist.  Maxwell has worked as organist at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in New Martinsville and is active in churches in Linz, Steyr, Bad Zell and Windhaag bei Perg, Austria.

Sean’s plans for this 1 day camp includes teaching the children about composers and allowing the children to experience some sweets from Austria, hearing and trying some folk music from there (for example, boys whose voices have already broken can try yodeling) and also experiencing accordion music along with some brass instruments.  Sean then hopes to allow for the children to try some of the traditional dances from there and he plans on sharing a slide show of pictures.

The camp is open to any and all children from 2nd through 8th.  Noon and afternoon snacks/foods will be provided.  Parents/custodians should make the volunteer staff aware of any health or food allergies at the time of registration to insure safety for the children.  As usual, this camp is free of charge.  The camp will begin promptly at 10 AM Wednesday Dec. 28, 2016and end at 5PM.  We hope all children will take advantage of this rare opportunity.  The camp is being sponsored by the New Martinsville First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and The Libby’s Kids Ministry.  Further information 304-455 4460 or 304-398-4222.
