The Scene from Saturday in Fairmont…
On Saturday, 56 women gathered in Fairmont to worship God, learn how to support the children of WV through WV CASA, and enjoy fellowship together.  It was a very encouraging event.

Worship Resources from Your Region
Each week of the year, and also on major holy days, your Regional Church provides “Life in Liturgy” as a resource for lectionary-based worship planning for pastors, elders, musicians, and others who provide leadership in worship.  Now with over 60,000 readers world-wide, this effort continues to grow, providing largely traditional-styled liturgical elements which can be used freely in your congregation.

Each week, along with links to the lectionary scriptures, you will find suggested hymns, original hymns and prayers, traditional prayers from the western church traditions, calls to worship, elders’ prayers for use at the Table, and more.  Some materials are drawn from the tradition, and others are created freshly for the day.by local contributors, including the editor, Rev. David Chafin, Consultant to the Regional Minister.  We welcome your contributions to the effort, as well.  Visit lifeinliturgy.org soon to prepare well for next Sunday. All of this is made possible by your faithful support of Disciples Mission Fund, and we are grateful.

Teach-In Offered for Clergy
As part of its on-going commitment to support the church and its leaders in living out our calling in the current divisive and contentious national climate, the faculty of Lexington Theological Seminary will be offering a teach-in on Tuesday, May 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EDT. This event will be simulcast on the web.  Read more

McLaren Offers Scott Lectures

Dr. Brian McLaren was the keynote speaker for the annual Oreon E. Scott Lectures, Apr. 24-25 at Bethany College.  McLaren, who is an internationally noted author, speaker, activist, and public theologian, spoke on Monday of the spiritual, theological, and missional migration that we presently are witnesses to in the life of the church.  Monday evening, participants gathered for worship at the Bethany Memorial Church, where the Rev. Dr. Tamara Nichols Rodenberg, President of the College, was the preacher.  On Tuesday, the group was led in a Holy Conversation, reflecting on the learnings of the prior day, and an open forum on issues from life in the church today.
The Scott Lectures, now in their 62nd year, began as the Annual Ministers’ Workshop.  They are an annual offering of Buffalo Seminary at Bethany College, which is funded in large part by the Oreon E. Scott Foundation.

Stewardship Program for Your Congregation
Teaching Stewardship is one of the marks of a Faithful Regional Church.  Church teaching is also clear that stewardship and generosity are marks of the faithful Christian life.  Stewardship and giving are joyful acts and signs of our participation with God in God’s world.  Stewardship is an invitation to draw nearer to our Lord.

The Center for Faith and Giving has the task of inviting us into this joy!  The materials that are provided are invitational and practical.  They are proven and trustworthy.  We invite you to engage in a disciplined season of teaching stewardship.  This is Disciples material written for Disciples as we seek to be faithful and generous in the lives God has given us.

Because of your generosity to Disciples Mission Fund, and through our regional partnership, these come with no cost.  Perhaps, like stewardship itself, it is simply a gift or an invitation to deepen our relationship with God.

In order for your congregation to access the program, your pastor needs to email Rev. Bruce Barkhauer at bbarkhauer@disciples.org.

Help4WV Offers Hope to Those Battling Addiction

First Choice Services is excited to operate a program that provides immediate help for any West Virginian struggling with an addiction or mental health issue. The program features a 24/7 call and text line: 1-844-HELP-4-WV.

Many of those answering the helpline are peer-support specialists or recovery coaches. This means that they have personal experience in recovery from a mental health or substance abuse issue. This initiative, funded by the Department of Health and Human Resources, is designed to streamline the process of seeking help for behavioral health issues.

The helpline staff offers confidential support and resource referrals, including self-help groups, out- patient counseling, medication-assisted treatment, psychiatric care, emergency care, and residential treatment.

The helpline provides assistance for those who need help themselves, and guidance for those seeking help for loved ones. It is also an ideal way for social workers, nurses, and others involved in discharge or care planning to access a comprehensive list of state resources Visit help4wv.com
